A Reflection After Southeast Asia

At the time, it seemed like a logical answer to a set of complex problems: frustrated men, broken relationships, and the pressures of modern life.

After recently traveling to Southeast Asia for the first time — as a 40-year-old man, fresh out of a six-year relationship with a woman who was great in many ways, but we just, over time, started seeing the world differently — I’ve come to believe I was wrong.
The Reality on the Ground
In theory, decriminalized prostitution sounds like a pragmatic solution. But in practice — at least in the place I stayed — 99.9 times out of 100, a woman you go on a date with will, in my experience, at some point drop the line and turn into a cheap transactional arrangement.
I never fully understood what the word “trick” meant until I came to Asia — and I’ve lived around black women most of my life, lol. Watching hookers scramble for my loose change is like watching a sad crack addict search for a rock under couch cushions. Easy money is a real addiction.
It’s wild to think about that our politicians were actually protecting us.
What I Got Wrong
I used to believe that if we decriminalized or legalized prostitution in America, it would be the ultimate win for our society. Now I see it differently. I believe I was wrong. If we decriminalized or legalized it in America, it would be the ultimate end for our society.
As much as I judged women like my ex back home with their fake jewish daycare email jobs, the reality is, if we don’t provide women with access to the higher-paying jobs that are easily accessible, they will all turn to prostitution and mess everything up even more.
Why Men Turn to This
The conclusion? Prostitution looks great from afar — if you watch too much porn. Add in Western pressure to have a successful career, our food being poisoned, identity politics, and this creates even more stress, which is why so many men from America, in the heat of the moment, may feel decriminalized prostitution is a healthy solution.
But then reality hits: HIV is real, condoms suck, and prostitution is actually a disgusting act that could kill you.
A Broader Perspective
That being said, the system here in Asia is still way better than in America. America is very depressing. At least in Asia, traditional roles are still understood. In America, you’ll have straight-up college professors arguing over how many genders there are.
But that doesn’t make prostitution the answer. It just means we have different problems in different places.
My Current Take
I believe I was wrong about decriminalizing prostitution. It’s not a solution — it’s a symptom. A symptom of economic desperation, identity crisis, and the breakdown of meaningful human connection. And like any symptom, treating it without addressing the root cause only makes things worse.
