MFI was first alerted to Britney’s powerful testimony by psychiatric survivor, Jim Flannery. We were then reminded of the relevance of Britney Spear’s story by psychiatric survivor, Sara Wu who, as an immigrant to the USA, became involved in an abusive relationship, then later, with American’s abusive psychiatric system.
Sara notes:
You can easily find the court transcript of her full statement in her recent conservatorship hearing. Here is one of the sources: https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2021/06/24/britney-spears-full-statement-conservatorship-hearing/5333532001/
While most people might focus on how her conservatorship is abusive in a legal sense, it is just as important to acknowledge how hellishly she has suffered from and traumatized by psychiatric abuse. I cried when reading the transcript because I have been through the oppression by the law and the mental health authorities myself. Even though I have never been in a conservatorship, I can feel how painful it is being enslaved and complete losing one’s autonomy.
Warmly, Sara Wu, Author & Mental Health Counselor
