Hello everyone,
It’s been a while since I last posted about my journey with NFTs and digital art. As many of you know, I was once enthusiastic about the potential of blockchain technology and smart contracts to revolutionize the art world. The idea of eliminating the need for art appraisers and creating a decentralized marketplace for artists was incredibly appealing. However, after some time exploring this space, I’ve decided to step away from NFTs. Here’s why.
Why I’m No Longer Pursuing NFTs
Ethereum’s Heavy Tracking and Gas Fees
One of the biggest challenges I faced was the unpredictability of Ethereum’s gas fees. There were times when I was charged double the expected amount, and even then, transactions sometimes failed due to insufficient fees. This made the process frustrating and financially unsustainable for both me and potential buyers. The heavy tracking and lack of privacy on the Ethereum network also became a concern, as it felt at odds with the decentralized ethos that initially drew me to blockchain technology.Environmental Concerns
While I loved the idea of smart contracts, the environmental impact of blockchain transactions, particularly on proof-of-work networks like Ethereum, became increasingly difficult to ignore. As someone who values sustainability, I couldn’t reconcile the carbon footprint of my art sales with my personal ethics.Market Saturation and Speculation
The NFT space quickly became oversaturated, with a focus shifting more toward speculative trading rather than genuine appreciation for art. This shift made it harder for artists like myself to connect with collectors who truly valued the work for its creativity and message.
Where to Find My Art Now
While I’ve moved away from NFTs, my passion for creating art remains as strong as ever. You can now find my work on Fine Art America, a platform that aligns better with my goals as an artist. Here, I can offer high-quality prints and other products without the complications of blockchain technology. Check out my portfolio here: Daniel Brummitt on Fine Art America.
The Future of My Art
I still believe in the potential of technology to transform the art world, but for now, I’m focusing on creating and sharing my work in ways that are more accessible, sustainable, and aligned with my values. I’m excited to continue exploring new mediums and platforms while staying true to my vision as an artist.
Thank you to everyone who supported me during my NFT journey. Your encouragement meant the world to me, and I hope you’ll continue to follow my work as I embark on this new chapter.
With gratitude,
Daniel Brummitt
